Shawn Chen

Shawn Chen has lived in multiple cities in China and had experience in stage play directing and choreography during high school. Later, she obtained a Master's degree in Finance from the University of California, Irvine.
After graduation, she worked in the financial industry of a state-owned enterprise and continued to engage in film creation. Shawn Chen engages in philosophical thinking from her experiences with the differences between Eastern and Western societies, the impact of public power, social structural differentiation, and the polarization of the world, as well as her identity as a woman and her non-binary gender identity as queer. She seeks inspiration and the core of film expression from these perspectives. She always respects human values, values individual differences, and focuses on common human issues.
In 2022, she directed the short film "ATTACK," reflecting the current situation of China's epidemic prevention, alluding to the social reality, and calling for attention to the living difficulties of ordinary people during the epidemic. In 2023, she directed the short film "FLOATING ROOT," which draws inspiration from her wandering experiences, gender stance, the increasingly intense national and ethnic conflicts in recent years, and the increasingly polarized public opinion. It won 2 awards at the Lulea International Film Festival and was nominated for 5 awards at the Los Angeles Film Award. In 2024, she directed the short film "MAKE DICK GREAT AGAIN," using absurd and humorous comedy to directly hit on human nature and reflect the current situation of "everyone being trained and examined" in society. It satirizes superpowers and calls for human awakening.
