Hongmiao Yu is an independent documentary film director and producer. In her past experiences, Yu has been in the field of journalism and documentary for over 20 years. During her time working for China Central Television , She is committed to exploring and practicing the integration of social news themes and documentary techniques from a perspective of humanistic care.Her documentaries cover themes such as the lives of people with disabilities, public healthcare, and the elderly in rural areas.
In 2015, Yu joined Youku, China’s then-largest online video platform. As the head of Youku’s non-fiction program production department, Yu produced or directed several documentary features and series, among which Still Tomorrow (Fan Jian, 2016) that she produced was widely acclaimed and received many awards including the Special Jury Award for Feature-Length Documentary at IDFA 2016.
After starting her own company in 2018, Yu has since been working with TV stations and Internet platforms in the production of various documentary series.
Her latest series of works focuses particularly on such areas as family relationships and social psychology.
