Director‘s Statement:
For centuries, the Kazakh people have lived a nomadic existence, migrating in pursuit of water and pasture. In Xinjiang, nomads confront both national modernization and traditional ways of life. The Kazakhs living in the Altai Mountains have continuously synthesized tradition and change in their production and daily practices through centuries of nomadic experience. The annual "seasonal migration" of the Kazakhs in Fuyun County, Altay Prefecture, has also been influenced by modern lifestyles, transforming the traditional pastoral practice of following water and pasture.
