Roxie Kexin Li

Graduated with a BA and MA from the Film Department of the College of Communication, University of the Arts London, and the Visual Anthropology program at Goldsmiths, University of London. Currently an Assistant Lecturer at the School of Creative Media, City University of Hong Kong, and a PhD candidate. Research interests include cross-cultural Chinese-language filmmakers, women’s cinema, oral history, and ethnographic documentary. Founder of WildNothingFilmStudio, with many years of professional experience in film and documentary production. Selected for the SIFFNEXT Directors Unit at the 2021 Shanghai International Film Festival. Her 16mm film Clown A was selected for the 2013 London International Short Film Festival. Source was selected for the 2019 Toronto MULAN International Film Festival. Fly me to the Sea won Best Short Film at the 25th Seoul International Women’s Film Festival, received the 2024 London Director Awards, won Best Cinematography / “NIKON FOCUS” Best Film in the Short Film Competition at the 14th Beijing International Film Festival, and was awarded Narrative Short Film of the Year at the 2024 Sea Wave Film Festival. It was also selected for the 2024 Rhode Island International Film Festival (USA), Golden Rooster Cross-Strait Short Film Festival, NOWNESS Talents, among others. Island: Pongso no Tao was selected for the 6th China Ethnographic Documentary Academic Biennale and has been permanently collected by the National Library of China and the National Ethnic Museum of China.
An experienced frontline director, screenwriter, interviewer, and field researcher, she specializes in fantastical narrative films, as well as documentaries from a female perspective that explore the relationship between humans and nature within an anthropological framework.
