Coming of Age - Student Film Projections
Coming of Age is a student short film projection program. These are the films made by Chinese film students from China and France at the end of their studies.
Student films show the mind and the heart of young Chinese filmmakers, what they are thinking and watching; what they care about and what is happening in their society, this culture which has been unnecessarily mysterious for far too long. And perhaps, where these people will take us in the future. Such stories can simply be a cute 8-year-old girl trying to learn to swim, or a young man’s city life’s struggles in which the bed feels nothing more than a coffin.
The graduation films, the ones they do at the end of their cinema education, at the point where they are leaving school and entering the real professional life, where film will no longer be just a beautiful dream, a burning passion but the reality of a responsable life. What are the stories they choose to tell at this coming of age period of their life, and how they tell it. it’s about the passion of a group of friends going beyond to show us intimate stories yet untouched by the monetary responsibilities of the profession.
