Story:

On the southern edge of the Tengger Desert, 62-year-old Lao Nian and 57-year-old Lao Zhu make a living planting trees. During the 2023 spring planting season, the filmmakers spent over ten days with them, observing their daily labor, conversations, and banter from dawn until nightfall.

Director‘s Statement:
Scattering grass, pressing it into the ground, digging sand, planting seedlings... This method of combating desertification, developed by the Chinese themselves, has achieved a seedling survival rate of up to 85% in some areas. After decades of persistent effort, the number of days with sandstorms in northern China has declined significantly. Most of this desert-control work is carried out by seasonal workers, who work from early morning until late at night. For them, it is simply a job that earns them a living.
