Director‘s Statement:
This is my second film focusing on stories between China and Europe. My first work, Lady of the Harbour, portrays the efforts of Chinese communities in Greece to support Syrian refugees, centering on the movement of people across continents.
A Marble Travelogue, by contrast, takes a broader perspective, focusing on the global circulation of objects under globalization.
Through stylized visual and sonic strategies, I aim to reveal—both on a micro and macro scale—what the globalization system, in which China plays a deeply embedded role, looks and sounds like. Within this tightly interwoven system, I explore how power is redistributed, how cultures are appropriated, and how individuals are inevitably alienated.
At the end of the marble’s many transformations, the pandemic and shifting geopolitics have turned this grand journey between Europe and Asia into a wistful act of looking back.
